Social Work Staff Serving Consumers at the Intersections of Social Justice Work and Professional Self-Care/3 Hour Training - (3 hours of Supervision OR Ethics CEUs)
In the midst of both the global COVID-19 pandemic and the public health crisis of racism, the field of social work is experiencing a fitting renewal of our collective commitment to anti-oppressive, anti-racist practice. Yet, anti-oppressive and anti-racist practice ironically may be even more challenging in the current environmental context we all exist in. This training will equip staff with a refreshed perspective on the idea of professional, social worker wellbeing, the realities of clinician impairment, and the parallel process of promoting environmental contexts that support wellness for ourselves and our consumers. The Reamer Model of Ethical Decision Making is used in this training as a tool to ethically address clinician impairment. Lastly, a framework for social justice work and healing justice practices will be provided to support social workers' thriving in their roles as transformative practitioners and collective healers.
A healing Justice Framework for Behavioral Health Treatment with BIPOC/2SLGBTQIA+ Client Systems -(6 hours of training CEUs)
This training offers a view of healing justice practices as defined by Cara Page, “Healing justice...identifies how we can holistically respond to and intervene on generational trauma and violence, and to bring collective practices that can impact and transform the consequences of oppression on our bodies, hearts and minds” https://www.healingbychoicedetroit.com/what-is-healing-justice. This training promotes a healing justice framework for personal and collective transformative healing. While centering the needs of Black, Indigenous, People of Color,Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender, Intersex, Asexual, and other sexual identities(BIPOC/2SLGBTQIA+) client systems, this training will seek to identify collective healing practices which serve to support living the principles of restorative justice, and the collective action necessary to disrupt and dismantle systems of oppression.
Behavioral Health staff often work within a medical model system where the needs of the body are bifurcated from the needs of the mind and soul. Traditional mental health treatment has demonized, criminalized, and pathologized populations expressions of being that have been in conflict with majority perspectives of mental wellness. This training will support a wholistic view of mental health treatment that will challenge the status quo ways of working with and on the behalf of client systems. Training participants will leave this training with a clearer understanding of the ways in which a healing justice approach can support wholistic healing while offering practical means of engaging whole heartedly in sustainable social justice work within the behavioral health context.
